A war to love

man and a woman holding hands

There is nothing more strange than Love. You find it at most bizarre places, in most kooky situations and with most eccentric people. Watching Laura and Jonathan walking down the aisle certified this to everyone. They looked like a pair of expensive earphones and a bottle of cough syrup. Exactly, no match. Jonathan stood tall, handsome and elegant in his wedding suit. His features could beat the hottest of the Hollywood star, while Laura looked older, tired, gawky. Jonathan wheeled Laura to the altar himself. He looked no lesser proud, no lesser in love with her.

Prank is life's favorite sport, it keeps playing it on everyone. Laura and Jonathan were no exception.

"I remember the first time I laid my eyes on Laura" reminisces Jonathan " She took my breath away in a flash. She was smiling over something someone said, and I couldn't tear my eyes off her. Her face suddenly got lit up like a thousands stars. Her hair reminded me of silk, every time air blew into them. She would often move her hands in them. And then it happened, the lightening strikes, the bells rang, birds sang, yes, she looked at me with those kohl filled liquid eyes. I was rooted. I wasn't sure if I was dead or alive. Whatever it was, the feeling was unprecedented and thrilling. She held my stare as she walked towards me. I waited with my breath stuck in my throat. I was so occupied looking at her that i didn't even notice the door right next to me." He laughed. "  After long I realized she was gone. I was flabbergasted. I was in a fix. I did not know her name, or anything about her as a matter of fact. I ran after her, but way too late. She was gone already. I had no clue how I was going to find her, but I knew I will, I had to, anyhow. For months, I attended every party in the town. I made myself invited to the ones I wasn't. I felt like a mad man, and I knew if I did not find her, I will be one soon. I was so hopelessly in love. But all went in vain. I gave up my hope of finding her. My parents were inclined to get me married. But I couldn't bring myself to comply to their wishes. How could I? My heart was lost to that mysterious woman. for me it was either her or no one else. And my parents would have understood if only I had something to tell them. I had no name, no identity, no photograph, nothing about the woman I was so crazily in love with. And then one fine day I saw her, again." He smiled fondly at the memories. "I had to visit hospital to see one of my ailing relatives. I was lost in thoughts, of course, of her, and was walking in the corridor, to the room. And suddenly she was there, standing face to face. There was something in her eyes that always did put me to trance. Before I could think of something to say, she said excuse me, you are standing in my way. And like a dumb, I moved aside, staring at her blankly." He gave a hearty laugh. " But this time I managed to break the spell she had put me in to, in time. I ran to her and guess what did I say? Instead of asking her name and whereabouts, I proposed her right away. I told her that I love her and if she will marry me.She laughed like I was a mad man. Well, at that time that was exactly what I was. And then she ruffled my hair like I was a school boy with a huge crush over her. Later did I realize how silly I must have sounded. I did not even know if she was married or not. I forgot my ill relative and ran after her. It took me almost a year of rigorous courtship and pursuance to make her believe that I indeed loved her truly. Finally she agreed to marry me. But then in all those fantastic moments, life happened. Laura was diagnosed with brain tumor." He spoke with sadness and wistfulness evident in his tone. "She went under various treatments and medications. It was a tough time to both of us and our families and friends. For me it was no less than a nightmare. It took me so much of perseverance to find my love, and I was not ready to let go of it, not now, not ever. All the the treatments and medications started taking toll on her. She was tired all the time and slept mostly. She lost her hair and that electrifying glow on her face. Her eyes were full of sorrow and agony. It killed me to see her like that. I wanted to marry her still, and she wanted to wait until she gets better. Which, later got evident she wasn't going to be. Doctors said surgery is the last option they are left it. And even that wasn't a sure thing. She could live or she could die. It was almost impossible to make the decision. I wanted to see her out of the misery, and surgery was our only option. If she lived she will be cured and if she died...." his voice choked. "Anyways, it took me another round of persuasion to make her agree to getting married to me before the surgery. And finally she agreed. And now here we are, married." He held her hand tight as if that would make her stay by his side forever. "Tomorrow is her surgery. I don't know what the day has in for us. It is scary. But I love her enough to take my chances. If she lives, which I so desperately hope she does, I live. If she dies, I go with her. I have no life beyond her from the day I first lay my eyes on her." And with that he kissed her on the forehead with all the love that he had.

A gift from the midnight

two friends hugging

At the stroke of midnight, my doorbell shrieked. I have been watching a suspense thriller and the sound made me jump. Staying alone in a flat could really get on your nerves sometime. A doorbell made my heart race faster than the Japanese bullet. I suspiciously peeked from my spy eye, no one. I sighed in relief, thinking it was all my imagination.

"Damn, I must stop watching such movies alone and late at night. Well may be from next time."

I turned away, eager to get back to my movie.

"Sshrieeeeekkkkkkkkkk", there my doorbell went again making me jump.

Now this wasn't my imagination. I peeked again, my heart beating in my throat, no one again. I decided to open the door and end this torture for once and for all. I cautiously turned off the locks, pulled open the doors and slowly craned my neck on either side to see who has been pestering me. As a face came in to view I did a double take, my jaws hit the ground. No, no, that wasn't a ghost. Well, may be you can say it was sort of. Standing at my door was a long lost friend of mine. Seeing her after a decade was no less startling than seeing a ghost itself.

"Ummm hi." She said in a barely audible tone.

"Nidhi", surprise was evident in my tone.

I remember being friends, best friends with Nidhi since as long as I remember. We had been partners in each others crime. If She was caught doing a mischief, it went without saying that I had been involved as well, and vice versa.  We went to same school, and then same college. We hung out with same people and had same hobbies. None of us fell in love ever. Among all these similarities, our thought differed like earth and sky. I was a wild horse and she was my reign. We were blessed to have each other. All was going good and then misunderstanding happened. Now that I think back, I fail to remember what was all the fuss about. I didn't explain and she never asked. That was the end of it. Well atleast I it was until now.

Seeing her standing at my door, so meekly, and so clearly troubled, had so many questions do marathon in my mind. But one look at her told me she needed time, and along with it a warm cup of coffee, some hugs and a pair of alert ears. And I was only too happy to provide all of it. I asked her in.

Although I earned good, I always had this love of spacious sitting room, a coffee table and few bean bags that you can easily drag around and mishandle. I went to get two steaming cup of coffee, handed one to her. She adjusted herself on the bean and so did I. Minutes passed with only occasional  sipping sound.

"How are you?"  She broke the uncomfortable silence.

"Good, but you look miserable."

A sad smile crept over her lips.

"Want to talk about it", I coaxed.

She sighed and began her story

It all began when I was doing my mass communications. It has been nearly over a year since we ...we separated. Ever since I remember you had been my best friend, my only friend actually. I was feeling lost and lonely without you. I, kind of, went in to a shell. I hardly spoke to anyone and usually kept to myself. Karan was my fellow-mate. We were studying the same branches and worked on many projects together. He had been pretty famous among girls, with his dark good looks and mysterious attitude. I had no idea what ignited his interest in me. But he would often come up to me and bug me until I talk to him. That became his habit and mine too. I always told myself he was annoying, and I keep looking for him so as to escape him. But even I knew I was fooling myself. I waited for him, I missed him when he was not around. He was my first real friend after you. And before I knew, I was in love with him. In time I found out he reciprocates my feelings. He asked me to marry him and I gladly said yes. That was then I slit the throat of my happiness from my own hands, just that I came to know this fact later. No sooner than I was married, I found out he was Casanova in true sense. He had been sleeping with many women. And what almost killed me was knowing that he had an...

 She gulped

...had an illicit affair with his brother's wife as well. Even when we were studying together, he had been taking women to bed. Only I had no ways to know it back then. When I confronted him, he apologized, said he will stop seeing everyone, and begged me to stay. And I like a fool believed him.

She broke down in to tears. I hugged her tight. But there was more of the story.

I loved him. And trusting him was my only crime. I believed in his promises that he never kept. It went on, but more discreetly. I went to my mother's home for ten days. But I had to come back early due to my mom's prior engagements. I rang the doorbell. A young looking female opened the door. She was wearing my bathrobe and was apparently naked beneath it. And then came my husband following her, in his bathrobe, naked beneath it, calling her the names he used to address me with. I left the house right away and ran as far as I could. I had no idea what to do, where to go. I was lost and lonely again and broken. I could think of no one but you. Thanks to social sites I knew your where about from the people you have been in touch with. And so I came.

She looked up at me with those wet pleading eyes, as if asking if it was fine with me, if she did the right thing. I did what I would have done back then, I hugged her.

At the stoke of midnight I got my best friend back.

A new beginning

sick woman in hospital
I promised, I will still be there
taking care
in best and in worst
in wellness and dispair.

"You came" she whispered,"I thought you were gone forever."

"I could not."

"You should have."

He looked at her shrunken figure lying on bed. Tears burned his eyes. She was once the most alive creature, and now she is worst that a dead. HIV killed her even before her death. He walked up to her bed, took the chair and sat close to her. She cringed as he took her palm in between her hands. She haven't had a company in last 5 months apart from her nurse. Intimacy suddenly felt strange to her. he felt her shiver at his touch, but he didn't let go her hands. She felt fragile.

"Don't alienate yourself from us Mansi."

"It was you who left me." She turned her face to other side, as a lone tear tickled down her face.

"I know, am sorry."

"Why did you come back? It was tough, but I was finally at peace with everything and everyone." She sobbed. "Oh, why did you come back?"

"I had to. I lost my peace of mind. never for a minute I had been without guilt. The house felt so lifeless and haunted without you. Every nook and corner of it is filled with your love and laughter. Every time we do something to keep ourselves happy, it always ended with if only you were there...."

Every moment of their togetherness flashed in front of her eyes like a movie roll playing. She looked at him. He looked shaken as if he has just realized she was dying. She felt his tears drenching the back of her hand.

"Am sorry Mansi. I am so sorry for letting you down. I promised to be with you in better and in worst. But when the worst came, I chickened out. You always said I was so unlike others. You were wrong. I acted like everyone else. Am sorry."

"Its okay Shree. I forgave you long back. You did what you thought right."

"There's someone else who is desperate to see you."

She looked confused and turned her head eagerly to the door. Just then the door opened and a small, doll like figure walked in. Mansi gasped.

"Naira"

Looking at her 5 year old daughter gave her a mixed feeling of pleasure and pain. The last time she saw her was when there was a noise and shouting everywhere in the house over her disease, and she was hiding in a corner. That night she was dragged to this nursing home and she didn't see Naira until now.

"Mommy"

Her voice seemed like music to her ears. She stared at her transfixed as she walked to her bed.

"Mommy, how are you?"

Mansi suddenly withdrew her hand as she felt Naira's touch.

"Don't worry mommy, papa told me I will not get ill by touching you. All I will get is a lot of love."

And with this she hugged her mother, she had so missed hugging since last fie months. Mansi hugged her daughter back, tightly, crying shamelessly. She looked at her husband with gratitude for letting her have this pleasure in her last hours.

"I guess I will leave you both for mother-daughter time. But only as long as I finish the formalities." Shree said getting up.

"Formalities?"

"Mommy, we are taking you home." Naira squealed.

She gave Shree a questioning look.

"Don't look at me like that. She is right, we are taking you home." He took her hands again, and almost whispered "I, we, want to take care of you. We have missed you a lot and now we want you back. The house seem impossible to live in without you, and the life seems so tough to go through. You have a long life to live sweetheart. And I will not let you die before that, not like this."

She smiled with tears in her eyes. This no more feels like an end, it has started to feel like a new beginning instead.

Birthday wish

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 40; the fortieth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton. The theme for the month is "MAKE A WISH"

woman blowing out birthday candles

"Blow the candles and make a wish"

She looked around the room with awestruck eyes. Drenched in the candle light and fragrance of millions of roses, the room looked nothing less than heaven itself. The glass table in front of her was decorated with little red hearts all over and in the center stood a mesmerizing cake with few candles tinkling on it. It seemed nothing short of a dream.

"Cummon baby, blow the candles and make a wish."

"Will you make it come true" she said smiling mischievously in a childlike tone.

"That we will see", he said slapping lightly on her back, smiling.

She giggled.

She bent down blowing the candles and closed her eyes making a wish. Just then she felt a piece of cloth being tied on her eyes.

"What is this now?", she chided.

"Shhh, baby keep cool", he whispered in her ears.

She felt the heat of his palm running down on her arms. His fingers entwined in hers. She felt his warm breath blowing her hair delicately. She took a step back, and then another and then another, and then she felt the coldness of wall on her back. She gasped, felt helpless. Not being able to see whats happening, she had to rely on her senses and more than that on him. His lips touched the side of her neck and she shivered. Her arms moved upwards touching the wall till they touched each other, and she felt another piece of silk being tied around her wrist.

"Honey", she whispered breathlessly in anticipation.

"Am here", he said tracing her skin from jaw to neck with his lips.

Being blindfolded, she was now more aware of his touches, and that only increased her anxiety of what lay ahead. It was when she tried to move her arms that she realized her arms were hooked. She was even more helpless now, and even more turned on. She was on a strange grounds. She wanted to see him, but can't, She wanted to touch him, but can't. Suddenly she heard a slow seductive music being played and followed by an audible rip of her gown. And her gasp that followed was even more audible. She soon forgot everything as his hands touched her shoulders and his lips started devouring her. He swept her off with a kiss like that of a starving man. She wanted to feel his body against her own, but he maintained a distance. He trailed a series of kisses on every inch of her neck, her shoulders , her arms, and everywhere except where she wanted it the most, her soft perked buds.

"Baby please, they are craving for your attention", she breathed heavily, her sound hardly audible.

She moaned aloud as her wish was granted. She felt a gush of heat enveloping her as his warm tongue teased her buds and then ever so teasingly, he took them in between his lips. A current shot down through her spine. She whined. When he was satisfied, he moved down, his tongue leaving a trail of heat everywhere on her skin. Unconsciously her legs parted in anticipation. He got his hint and moved to the center. His tongue eagerly lapping on her wetness. She whimpered, She curved her back to take more of him. He took her with his tongue until she was satisfied. While she was still gathering her breath she felt the warmth of his skin on her own, and his desire on her just satisfied femininity. And she felt a wave of desire consuming her again. He held her back in his palms, raised her to meet him. Her legs tightly wrapped around her waist as he took her. Everything else was lost, time paused, the only thing that existed to her was him, the only thing she felt was him. The moment was consummate, the feeling was consummate, she felt consummate. She felt faint as an enormous orgasm grasped her. Next thing she remembered was lying on top of him, drenched in sweat, breathing heavy, untied.

"You knew my wish", she said gasping for air.

He smiled and hugged her tight.

"Oh when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always want to be there
Those were the best days of my life"

Bryan Adams sang as Shreyasi entered the cafe house for her breakfast meeting. Working in a leading firm and become the most sought after business developer has some drawbacks, for her, this was one of them. What she prefers is a quite breakfast over her terrace overlooking the sea, which was often ruined by the breakfast meetings with her nagging clientele. But the song somehow made up her mood. Ever since her childhood she had been a Bryan Adam fan, and she and her friends sang, not sang, screamed this song often together. The memories always bring back a longing smile on her face. Oh, the song and the fond memories, she smiled.

As if on cue, a group of fresh college grads walked in the cafe, arms around neck, hand in hand, chirping like happy birds. They took the diagonal seat. Looking at them she was transported back in time. She remembered how they would often hang out for coffees, talk about everything, laugh on the ever serious matter. No matter how long they stay together, the craving to be with each other was never satiated. Just then a girl in the group slowly shifted her chair close to the guy in the group she had been eying shyly. It went unnoticed by the group but Shreyasi saw it and chuckled, remembering her crush, or love will be more apt, and the things she did just to be close to him.

She has been so lost in her memories that she didn't even notice another gang entering in the cafe house, three men and two women dressed smartly in business suits. They walked noiselessly to her table. Her trance was broken only by the sound of chairs being pulled. She looked up, astonished.

"Wha..." Shreyasi started.

"Happy Friendship day miss manager", together they sang before she could even finished.

Butterflies ran down her spine as she hugged her buddies, the ones she had been thinking about.

"What in the hell are you all doing here?" She asked grinning dumbly "shoo..leave...go away all of you.I have a business meeting."

"Ma'am am calling from xx enterprises, we have something important to discuss with you. Shall we meet over breakfast" Raushan, the most notorious of all mocked laughingly.

"You, it was you." Shreyasi picked up the menu in the manner of attacking and everyone laughed.

"Cummon babes, its Friendship day and we haven't missed a meeting in years."

"Yeah, but this was new. I mean you guys surprising me like this." She grinned.

"We have another one for you lady." they all smiled in conspiracy.

Just then Shikhar, her college crush, went down on his knees, with a beautiful ring in his hands.

"Shreyasi, you are the light of my life. I have been in love with you since I don't even know how long. I would have told you in college itself. I knew you loved me too. But back then I had nothing else to offer you but my love. I wanted to give you all the luxuries of the world, every happiness that has a price, and every those that are priceless too. Now that I am well settled to take care of you in every way I dare to ask you, WILL YOU MARRY ME PRINCESS?"

Tears ran down her eyes, "Yes" she said with a choked voice. Claps, cheers and congratulations went around. Standing in arms of the man she has always loved she realized her life is full of best days, those, this and would be's.
